Full Moon in Gemini: Achieve Big Dreams with Little Steps
With the holidays fully in swing and the year winding down, we may find ourselves in a reflective mood. The dark half of the year is the time to look inward, to focus on our private lives and to process our deep feelings. It’s a time to reflect on the past year (and what a tumultuous year it’s been!) and to plan for the future ahead. Luckily, this weekend’s Full Moon is here to help.
This Sunday December 3rd, the Full Moon in Gemini will oppose the Sun in Sagittarius. Whenever the Sun and the Moon land in opposite signs, we get a Full Moon. But this one’s also a Supermoon—which just means the Moon’s orbit brings it physically closer to the Earth this month, adding a little extra magickal punch. The Moon opposing the Sun brings tension between the two poles of Gemini and Sagittarius and invites us to consider how we can better balance this aspect of our lives.
On the one side, we have Gemini, the sign of the Twins, representing communication, ideas and information. The Twins symbolize the two hemispheres of the brain chatting away; thoughtful but always hungry for novelty. Gemini brings a detail-oriented focus, a love for new ideas, but also short attention span. The Gemini Moon may make us more talkative and social, but also more flaky and easily distracted.
On the other side, we have Sagittarius, the sign of the Archer, representing ambition, planning and philosophical learning. The Archer, also known as Chiron the Centaur, shoots his arrow far, symbolizing ambitions that aim high. The Archer brings a big-picture perspective that’s spiritual, philosophical and adventurous, but also a little lofty and high-minded.
The Sagittarius Sun is a month of mystical learning & exploration when we conjure ambitious dreams for the future. We can have profound insights about our life’s direction now, but we may also delude ourselves with dreams too big to manifest. Sagittarius is depicted as half-man half-horse because the Centaur represents the duality in each of us between man and animal, and invites us to harmonize the spiritual and material aspects of ourselves. Remember: spirituality without being grounded becomes delusional, while being grounded without any spirituality feels empty.
Naturally, the Gemini Moon’s detailed-oriented focus can help balance the Sagittarius Sun’s lofty dreaming. When the Archer’s big-picture perspective harmonizes with the Twins’ little-picture focus, big dreams can be hammered down to practical size and be made achievable. This combination of energy makes the final month of the year an excellent time to work on the details of ambitious long-term projects. Work on the nitty-gritty without losing the larger perspective. Manifest big ambitions without biting off more than you can chew.
Where do you need more balance between big picture and little picture thinking? Do you worry too much about every little detail that you never make big progress? Or do you obsess so much about the destination that you never seem to start the journey? Use this time to reflect on how far you’ve come this past year, and how far you’ve yet to go, and then let the Gemini Moon help you sort out the details of your loftiest Sagittarian dreams.
